✗ I’m so busy though! How can I be expected to join a community and add yet another thing to my to-do list?

👆 If this is you – we get it. We’ve been there. The thing is the resources and support you’ll find in The Mentor Standard Community are specifically designed to both energise you and make mentorship more rewarding.

I’m already part of a mentoring programme so I won’t need this?

Mentoring programmes focus primarily on matching mentors with mentees and tracking progress through online tools. There’s usually only limited support once you are matched and your mentoring begins. The Mentor Standard is not your traditional mentoring programme. We are not involved in any matching process, so all our time and attention is focused on best practice and giving you the tools to maximise the impact of your mentorship, whether you are involved in mentoring independently, or via a programme. Community and networking are at the heart of what we do so you should never feel alone and the answers and strategies you need are always close to hand.

✗ Mentoring is only for people whose careers are suffering though, right?

Well no! Smart professionals have woken up to the fact that mentoring isn’t just for people whose careers have stalled. In fact, mentoring is now identified as one of the key strategies successful people employ time and time again to take their careers to the next level.

✗ Okay, I get that but what if I ask and they say no. I mean how embarrassing would that be!

✓ We’ll take you through how to identify your potential mentor and how to ask them so they see the win/win in the relationship for both of you. Trust us – getting the yes is easy following our tried and tested strategies.

✗ Yeah, but do people really mentor you for free? That’s a big commitment – there has it be something in it for them, right?

✓ Absolutely, mentors choose to volunteer their time because the benefits for them are so rich. For example, mentors are six times more likely to be promoted than leaders who don’t mentor. Their leadership skills are honed, and they get to shape the next generation of leaders too. Smart leaders know just how beneficial mentoring is and the rewards that follow for everyone. We work with mentors too, so we see their passion and commitment to developing rising talent daily.

✗ I’m lucky my manager invests their time in my development why should I bother with learning about mentoring?

✓ Honestly, it’s fantastic your manager is that forward thinking. Here’s the thing though, your manager’s role is to make sure you’re meeting your team’s goals which means they aren’t always focused on your career journey. Choosing a mentor yourself, outside the binds of line management means you can take a more strategic approach to your career. Usually, people have more than one mentor throughout their career and at times, may even have multiple mentors. Within our community you’ll meet like-minded professionals focused upon developing themselves and others in a way you simply can’t experience within a line-management structure.

✗ Sure, I’ve thought about mentoring, but I just haven’t got the time.

✓ What if we told you mentoring doesn’t have to be – shouldn’t be - time consuming. It’s the mentee who will step up and take responsibility for arranging your meetings, setting their goals and keeping communication flowing with you.

We teach mentees how to operate effectively saving time for you both and ensuring you are free to guide and advise, just as it should be.

✗ All right, but the benefits are all the mentee’s

✓ Not so. Not by a long shot. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again – mentors are six times more likely to be promoted than leaders who don’t mentor. So, quick question – what’s your next promotion likely to be in monetary terms? You see our point, right?

But money is really only the tip of the iceberg – leaders are only as strong as their team. Mentoring is one sure way to forge loyalty from rising talent. The skill set you have access to only grows with each mentee and that can be a win/win for everyone.

✗ I’ve been a mentor for years I don’t think I need this.

✓ We used to have a client who practised recurve archery. Regularly we’d see them on the field and at winter we’d see them inside. They practised like, a lot. So, they weren’t best pleased when Amira aced their score.

The point is, you can practice all you like without really getting any better, or even being any good. Lone practice allows bad habits and ineffectual ways of working to creep in uninvited and unchecked.

Amira surrounded herself with successful archers, watched their form, asked their advice, reached out when her arrows refused to hit the target! She benefitted from their mistakes and used their shortcuts to success.

Our mentor and mentee bundle packages include enhanced membership to their own dedicated hubs, members’ lives specifically tailored to support their growth, 12-month access to our accredited CPD course with fortnightly office hours to challenge and guide their development, including regularly updated resources and templates, all designed to enhance the mentor/mentee relationship.

Bundle subscribers have access to everything in the member’s lounge too, so you will still be able to meet and interact with community members from all our packages – it’s just you may notice them disappear into their own dedicated areas at times.
